Bowel Cancer Screening Awareness Month
April is Bowel Cancer Screening Awareness Month, a vital time to highlight the importance of early detection. Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, but screening can help find it early, even before symptoms appear, when treatment is most effective.

If you're eligible, taking part in the NHS screening programme could save your life. Look out for your screening kit, follow the instructions, and encourage loved ones to do the same.

Early action makes all the difference!

Frontline Essex
Frontline was designed by Uttlesford Citizens Advice, but it is really a large community project where organisations and services sign up to improve people’s knowledge and access to local services.

Frontline in Essex is funded by Mid and South Essex ICB, Hertfordshire and West Essex ICB, Suffolk and North East Essex ICB, and Essex County Council. Staff employed and volunteering for Frontline Referrals help to run the services.

If you believe a service could benefit you, you have the option to request a callback (if available) to speak directly with the service or self-refer. A member of the Frontline team will then get in touch with you.

Stop Smoking
Smoking causes one in four of all cancer deaths in England and kills up to two-thirds of its long-term users. It is estimated that smoking costs the country £21.3 billion a year in England. This includes an annual £18 billion loss to productivity, through smoking related lost earnings, unemployment, and early death, as well as costs to the NHS and social care of £3 billion.
You’re far more likely to quit smoking successfully with the right support. Discover what’s available at NHS Better Health and prepare to quit for good this No Smoking Day – 12 March 2025. Visit www.nhs.uk/better-health/quit-smoking to access tools to quit smoking.

Blood Pressure
High blood pressure rarely has any symptoms which is why it is called the ‘silent killer’. The only way to know you have the condition is to get your blood pressure measured.

Norton Place offers blood pressure monitors for home use to patients registered with GP surgeries within the Primary Care Network (PCN). Clinicians may request a 7-day home monitoring period to obtain an average blood pressure reading. If you’re interested in borrowing a blood pressure monitor, please call us at 01702 987800 or visit Reception for assistance.

Cholesterol
High cholesterol is when you have too much cholesterol in your blood, which can increase the risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Cholesterol is a natural fatty substance in your blood. It’s produced in the liver and it's also in some of the foods we eat.

If you live in England and are aged 40-74 you can ask for an NHS health check. Your doctor should write to you every five years about this.
