CONTRACEPTION AND MENOPAUSE CARE

Contraception refers to the methods that are used to prevent pregnancy. Some methods of contraception can also be used to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Contraception is FREE on the NHS for all ages and you can get it from a range of places including Brook services and your GP. Each method of contraception has its own effectiveness, advantages, and potential side effects, and the choice of method can depend on individual health, lifestyle, and personal preferences.

Contraception/Menopause care offered at Norton Place

  • Coil (Copper) - An IUD (intrauterine device), also called a copper coil, is a small plastic T-shape that a doctor or nurse puts into your womb (uterus). It does not use hormones.

  • Coil (Mirena) - An IUS (intrauterine system), also called a hormonal coil, is a small plastic T-shape that a doctor or nurse puts into your womb (uterus). It stops pregnancy by releasing the hormone progestogen into your womb.

  • Implant - The contraceptive implant is a small plastic rod, around 4cm long, that a doctor or nurse puts under the skin of your arm.

  • Pessary Ring - Pessaries are removable devices that go inside your vagina. They provide support to your pelvic organs if you have pelvic organ prolapse or stress incontinence.

What are the next steps once I have filled my form out?

Once you have completed the form above, our team will review it and add you to our waiting list. A nurse will then contact you for a pre-assessment, typically within four weeks. These calls usually occur in the daytime during the working week. During this call, the nurse will either schedule your appointment at an upcoming clinic or inform you of additional clinic dates as they become available. You will also receive advice from the nurse prior to your appointment.

If you have not been contacted within four weeks from the date you joined the waiting list, please call us at 01702 987800 to speak with our reception team.

UPDATE: If you are not registered with one of the surgeries within our PCN, we are unable to add you to our waiting list.

Let's talk about sex!

You might feel embarrassed, but there's no need – the staff at these clinics are used to testing for all kinds of infections. It's their job and they won't judge you. They should do their best to explain everything to you and make you feel at ease.

Anyone can go to a sexual health clinic regardless of their gender, age or whether they have symptoms.

If you're under 16, the service is still confidential and the clinic won't tell your parents.
